About Edwin Bryant

Edwin Bryant is a Professor of Religion at Rutgers University, specialising in Hindu philosophy, yoga, and the Yoga Sutras of Patañjali. He holds a PhD from Columbia University and is widely regarded as one of the world’s foremost scholars on Patañjali’s Yoga Sutras.

His acclaimed translation and commentary, The Yoga Sutras of Patañjali (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 2009), is considered the definitive scholarly text, richly annotated with classical commentaries and deeply accessible to practitioners and academics

Edwin has studied with some of the greatest yoga masters of the 20th century and brings a rare combination of rigorous scholarship and deep spiritual understanding. He teaches internationally and is sought after by yoga students and scholars around the world.
