Who is this for?
Whether you are considering yoga teacher training or simply wish to refresh and deepen your practice, this four-day workshop series offers a rich exploration of yoga, integrating body, breath, and nervous system awareness.
Each session builds on the last, giving you both practical tools and embodied understanding to bring into your teaching or personal practice.
How does it work?
With 8 one-day masterclasses over 9 months you will explore everything from yoga philosophy to meditation. Learn about and understand the subtle body, prana & your pranayama and even develop a home practice specific to your needs.
This course is a great bridge to our teacher training courses, or simply a chance to deep dive into areas of yoga that are less commonly explored.

If you have been doing classes for years but want to deepen your understanding of the roots of yoga this is for you.
Yoga has a long and complex history, but it is built upon some fundamental truths about human nature that have always been a part of the tradition. In fact these ideas today have made their way into psychology.
In our philosophy days, we will look at the foundational ideas that are still relevant today.
Throughout the course we will refer back to yoga philosophy and psychology, discussing topics such as “pratibaksha bhavana” - the art of thinking more kindly towards yourself, so that you can deepen your own connection to this incredible tradition.
The yogis realised the mind does not always speak the truth, and devised a comprehensive yoga system to help us live with more ease, truth and kindness. The whole yoga in depth course shares this approach so that you will find that. it reaches far beyond the studio training days, and supports you throughout your life.

Our posture exploration is not simply a class that you follow.
We will explore the anatomy of the human body and how this affects the posture for each student. So that you come away with your own bespoke approach to asana. Discover the things to work on and how to create your own home practice.
We will explore families of postures so that we can find where the alignment is the same, or where it varies. This helps us build a complete movement practice and deepen the meditative nature of the work.
The standing postures give us ways to feel more grounded, and through Yoga in Depth we explore beyond the physical to understand how this relates to the "prana" and how the life force animates the body and mind.

For many people, prolonged sessions of silent stillness can feel uncomfortable and is difficult to master. Instead of diving into 20 minutes stiff silence, we will start with mini meditations and begin to explore ways that you can integrate stillness into your everyday life.
Some practices seem simple but are the foundation of what we know today create calm and happiness!
Integrate breath awareness
Loving kindness meditaiton
Moving mediation- mindfulness in movement
Poetry and the power of words
Mindfulness of the body
You will come away with a practice that suits you to add into your day. Whether a few moments or a longer practice

Expect your hips to feel amazing (if a little achey the next day), to understand the anatomy of the postures, and to have a mini standing sequence you can do anytime you need 10 minutes to feel settled. Build a healthy hip + mobility habit now!

We are often told that the core protects the back, but in Yoga in Depth we examine some of these closely held ideas and see what the research really says. We will explore different ways of approaching each posture so you find the exact method that works for you.
Understand how the spine really moves, the role of the hips and shoulders in backbends, find more ease and stability, and how specifically to deepen your postures, to suit your body.
Taking this approach we also integrate the role of the breath and mental focus.
By understanding the anatomy of the posture and how to safely deepen the practice to suit you, you will have an incredible foundation if you ever do want to go into teaching.
Explore key principles of backbends and twists; length of spine, role of the shoulder and hip flexor and how the postures work in a hyper-mobile body versus one less flexible.

Learn the layers of core and how to engage it without "puffing out", and in a way that stimulates the vagus nerve finding a sense of calm and soothing in an area which is often labelled as uncomfortable or hard.
Understand the role of the Nervous System when it comes to inversions and arm balances and the postures which are considered more complex.
We’ll weave in breath-work and touch upon mindfulness during these postures so that you can hone in and focus on the body and mind.

For much of yoga history this was THE main practice and at BSY we believe it deserves to maintain this role. Pranayama (breath-work) is the most effective way to soothe stress.
Approach pranayama in Trauma Sensitive way - so that if breath work makes you anxious there will be options for you to explore and find a way to suit you.
Start with the foundations and anatomy of a healthy breath as stress can disrupt normal healthy breathing.
Pranayama will give you healthy breathing patterns that will create more mental stability and physically ease the neck and shoulders. Help engage core effectively for your movement.
Learn a home pranayama practice, that you can start to develop. This is often the most transformational experience.
